Geometry Obsessed

Geometry is no stranger in Gigi's Little Art Department. The latest are earrings of beaded hexagons in gunmetal Miuyki Delica Seed Beads. I owe it to my latest commission that I was able to construct these, because it motivated me to learn a new beading technique. While time-consuming, peyote is beautiful and rewarding to complete. 

You Know You Want It

Check out this new design! I developed it while trying to find a great way to use the coral chips. The necklace is accented with a knit tubular cord of fishing line beaded with coral chips strung on vintage copper chain. I am in love if I may say so myself.

Garbage Room Finds

I make a habit of visiting the recycling room of my apartment building as often as I can, and it has paid off. In addition to electronics, which I can turn into e-art, I have found umbrellas, some very interesting jewelry, and shoes.  

Bloorcourt Fair

Yesterday after playing beach volleyball, I biked to the Bloorcourt arts and crafts fair to check it out. I was impressed by the level of skill and design put into the products at all the tables. I met Ting of Acidzip who makes fantastic porcupine quill jewelry and has a great sense of vintage style, and I bought this necklace she made. I love the necklace, and it has been over a year since I have bought any jewelry so I am super excited about it and will probably wear it every waking hour.

Art from the Recycling

Here is a little treat I finally put together today after those garlands of paper beads have been sitting around for at least eight years. The beads were made from the pages of Famous magasine. In middle and high school, I used to pick up the Famous magasine every time I went to a movie theatre. They sat around and got used for collages and this. I took the IKEA frame from the recycling room in my apartment building. Voila, the result is a rearrangeable piece of wall decor.
